24x30" acrylic + charcoal on canvas
‘That shade of red offends me’ he says
‘Have you even considered me?’
Im trying to show him all the blood
I’m desperate for him to see
To feel a glimpse of safety
Any shred of hope
That this heavy armor can come off
My child self might cope
But no one taught him I’d say
It’s really not his fault
Ill explain it better next time
Maybe then he’ll believe in assault
Such a bizarre fantasy
An old pattern through and through
Expecting a predator to lend his hand
To stand between harm and you
He claims he wants a family
The sharp fear strikes it’s chord
Cuz I’d be protecting all of us
This heavy price I can’t afford
For when a man refuses to see
Incapable, or well aware
The woman will bleed on overtime
Weaponized incompetence, he does not care
The shade of red upsets him
Or maybe it’s my tone
To bleed before an average man
And watch him check his phone.
