we know what a face entails. 
what we don’t know, 
is whats beneath the veil, 
what the soul might be grappling with.
 
the steadiness of the gaze offers familiarity,
a place to land 
while the fragmented features, or lack thereof, 
tell another story, 
one that doesn't muscle control
as if there was ever a choice
