New Adventures in Guatemala

This past month, Andy and I traveled back to Guatemala.

We backpacked a three day trek from Xela to Lago Atitlan with the Quetzaltrekkers (incredible non-profit guiding hikes through the Guatemala highlands to fund an entire school in Xela), made some great progress on the building of our house on the Pacific coast, we met with the founders of La Choza Chula (educational non-profit in El Paredon), and painted our first mural together!

Finding proper acrylic exterior mural paint in Lake Atitlan was not the easiest task. But with determination and persuasian, we were able to locate a large gallon of white in San Juan, plus four small pots of paint: blue, green, yellow, and orange. This is hardly enough for the layering technique that I am so used to, but, nonetheless, we were able to turn a very unappealing white wall into a version of the lakeshore, with the volcanoes hovering around it. Aries, friend and owner of El Sotz hotel in Panajachel, kept this garden wall white for a year, saving it for us.

I look forward to painting many more murals around this incredible country, espcially with my new assistant.
